Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using ezysplit to complete your Financial Statement for separation in Australia.
Getting Started
What is a Financial Statement and why do I need one for separation in Australia?
A Financial Statement (also known as Form 13) is a legal document required by the Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court when dealing with property settlement or spousal maintenance matters. It provides a complete picture of your financial situation, including income, assets, liabilities, and expenses. Both parties in a separation must complete one to ensure fair and transparent negotiations or court proceedings. The Financial Statement helps determine how assets should be divided and whether spousal maintenance is appropriate.
How do I create an account with ezysplit?
Creating an ezysplit account takes less than a minute. Simply visit app.ezysplit.com.au, click "Get Started", and enter your email address and a secure password. You'll receive a verification email to confirm your account. Once verified, you can immediately begin working on your Financial Statement. No credit card is required to start, and you can complete the entire document before deciding to upgrade.
Is ezysplit suitable for all types of separation in Australia?
ezysplit is designed for Australian couples separating from marriage or de facto relationships. It's ideal for straightforward to moderately complex financial situations. If you have significant business interests, complex trust structures, or international assets, we recommend consulting with a family lawyer. However, even in complex situations, ezysplit can help you organise your financial information before meeting with legal professionals.
Can I use ezysplit if my separation is amicable?
Absolutely. In fact, ezysplit's collaborative mode is perfect for amicable separations. Both you and your ex-partner can work on the Financial Statement together, each completing your own sections while seeing the full picture. This transparency helps reduce disputes and speeds up the property settlement process. Many couples use ezysplit to prepare their documents before finalising their agreement with a lawyer.
Using the Platform
How does Open Banking work with ezysplit?
Open Banking, through Australia's Consumer Data Right (CDR), allows you to securely share your bank account information with ezysplit. When you connect your bank, we can automatically import your account balances and transaction history. This saves hours of manual data entry and ensures accuracy. Your bank credentials are never stored by ezysplit—the connection uses secure, government-regulated protocols. You can revoke access at any time through your bank's app or website.
How accurate are the AI property valuations?
Our AI property valuations are trained on Australian real estate data and typically provide estimates within 5-10% of professional valuations. The AI considers factors like location, property type, size, number of bedrooms/bathrooms, and recent sales in your area. While these valuations are useful for initial estimates and negotiations, the court may require a formal valuation from a licensed valuer for contested matters. We always recommend getting a professional valuation for your primary residence.
Can I save my progress and come back later?
Yes, your progress is automatically saved as you work. You can close your browser and return at any time—simply log back in and continue where you left off. The progress tracker shows exactly which sections you've completed and which still need attention. This is particularly useful as gathering all your financial information may take several sessions.
What if I make a mistake in my Financial Statement?
You can edit any section of your Financial Statement at any time before generating the final PDF. Simply navigate to the relevant section and make your changes. If you've already downloaded a PDF and need to make corrections, you can regenerate a new PDF after making updates. We recommend thoroughly reviewing all information before your final download. Remember, Financial Statements are legal documents, and providing false information can have serious consequences.
Security & Privacy
How does ezysplit protect my sensitive financial information?
ezysplit uses bank-level security measures to protect your data. All information is encrypted using 256-bit SSL encryption, both in transit and at rest. Your data is stored in Australian data centres that comply with ISO 27001 standards. We never share your personal information with third parties, and our staff cannot access your data without your explicit permission. We also offer two-factor authentication for additional account security.
Is my data stored in Australia?
Yes, all ezysplit user data is stored exclusively in Australian data centres. We do not transfer your personal or financial information overseas. This ensures your data is protected by Australian privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles. Our hosting infrastructure is provided by Australian-based providers with SOC 2 Type II certification.
Can my ex-partner see my information if we're not using collaborative mode?
No. If you're working on your Financial Statement independently (solo mode), your ex-partner cannot see any of your information unless you explicitly share it with them. Each user has their own secure, private account. Even in collaborative mode, certain sensitive details can be kept private until you're ready to share. You control what information is visible at all times.

Legal & Compliance
Is the ezysplit Financial Statement accepted by Australian courts?
The Financial Statements generated by ezysplit follow the format and requirements of Form 13 used by the Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. While our documents are professionally formatted and comprehensive, courts may have specific requirements for your matter. We recommend having a family lawyer review your Financial Statement before filing. Many solicitors use ezysplit documents directly or with minor modifications.
Does ezysplit provide legal advice?
No. ezysplit is a document preparation tool, not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. Our platform helps you organise and present your financial information, but we cannot advise on legal strategy, property settlement negotiations, or court procedures. For legal advice specific to your situation, please consult a qualified Australian family lawyer. We can provide referrals to family law professionals if needed.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
When you request account deletion, all your personal data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. This includes your Financial Statement information, documents, and any connected bank data. We retain only anonymised, aggregated data for service improvement purposes. You can request a copy of all your data before deletion. Contact support@ezysplit.com.au to initiate account deletion.
Do I need to disclose cryptocurrency and offshore assets?
Yes. Australian law requires full and frank disclosure of all assets in a Financial Statement, including cryptocurrency, overseas property, international bank accounts, and any other assets regardless of location. Failure to disclose assets can result in serious legal consequences, including court orders being set aside. ezysplit allows you to record all types of assets, including digital currencies and international holdings.
